Plasma Polymerization |

Generation of lateral bonds between linear polymer molecules. This process is very common by deposition of polymers from plasma, since plasma is partially damaging the existing bonds in the linear polymers (by electron impact, radicals, UV, ...) and making them more susceptible for radicals or other dangling bonds. The consequence is, that the plasma polymerized films are not a collection of linear polymer molecules, but a complex 3D-network with different properties comparing with purely chemically synthesized species. |
